During my second to last semester of college, my CIS 482 class gave me a
real challenge. The college museum was interested in a program that, when
given a picture of an arrow head, would classify the arrow head into various
types. This seemingly simple task is very difficult to get a computer to do.
Using my Image Processing skills and learning about artificial neural
networks, I was able to finish AACS in a few months and, once properly
trained, the program worked surprisingly well. After the semester finished,
the museum liked AACS so much that they hired me to continue development. I
spent my last semester reworking the neural net for greater speed and
accuracy. Development continues at ISU.
